Analysis of pattern recognition techniques for in-air signature biometrics

Keywords: Biometrics Signature Accelerometer Hidden Markov models Bayes Dynamic time warping As a result of advances in mobile technology, new services which benefit from the ubiquity of these devices are appearing. Some of these services require the identification of the subject since they may access private user information. In this paper, we propose to identify each user by drawing his/her handwritten signature in the air (in-air signature). In order to assess the feasibility of an in-air signature as a biometric feature, we have analysed the performance of several well-known pattern recognition techniques—Hidden Markov Models, Bayes classifiers and dynamic time warping—to cope with this problem. Each technique has been tested in the identification of the signatures of 96 individuals. Furthermore, the robustness of each method against spoofing attacks has also been analysed using six impostors who attempted to emulate every signature. The best results in both experiments have been reached by using a technique based on dynamic time warping which carries out the recognition by calculating distances to an average template extracted from several training instances. Finally, a permanence analysis has been carried out in order to assess the stability of in-air signature over time.

Use of the Shearlet Transform and Transfer Learning in Offline Handwritten Signature Verification and Recognition
Despite the growing growth of technology, handwritten signature has been selected as the first option between biometrics by users. In this paper, a new methodology for offline handwritten signature verification and recognition based on the Shearlet transform and transfer learning is proposed. Since, a large percentage of handwritten signatures are composed of curves and the performance of a sig...
متن کاملBiometrics and Face Recognition Techniques
Biometrics is a growing technology, which has been widely used in forensics, secured access and prison security. A biometric system is fundamentally a pattern recognition system that recognizes a person by determining the authentication by using his different biological features i.e. Fingerprint, retina-scan, iris scan, hand geometry, and face recognition are leading physiological biometrics an...
متن کاملOffline Handwritten Signature Recognition
Biometrics, which refers to identifying an individual based on his or her physiological or behavioral characteristics, has the capability to reliably distinguish between an authorized person and an imposter. Signature verification systems can be categorized as offline (static) and online (dynamic). This paper presents a neural network based recognition of offline handwritten signatures system t...

متن کاملTongue Scanning as a Biometric Tool for Improvising the Security in Identification
Biometrics refers to a real-time identification system that is used in the identification of a person using a specific physical or behavioral characteristic which is compared with a library of characteristics of many other people. This is done using a biometric scanning device (tongue-print scan) which captures the user’s biometric data such as the tongue-print scan and converts it into a digita...
